After a holiday or little weekend away, unpacking as soon as I get home isn't really something I was looking forward to doing. Unless of course I've done lots of shopping. But that's not usually the case.
Years of travel and my obsession with keeping my room neat have made me somewhat of an expert in this area. I've mastered the art of unpacking in 10 minutes or less, regardless of the size of my luggage or how long I've been away.
1) It starts before you leave
Before you even leave your the foreign country/city/town you are in, make sure you pack your bag in an organised manner. I like to keep all my clean clothes at the bottom, then I put my hair iron etc on top, and my dirty clothes go in last. That way they're at the top.
2) Organise in bags
If you've got everything in specific bags instead of just floating around somewhere, you'll make less of a mess when you're unpacking at home.
All your toiletries in one bag, all your shoes in another etc etc...
3) Laundry first!
Remember how all you dirty clothes are at the very top of your bag? That's so that as soon as you get home you can chuck them in the washing machine or the laundry basket.
That way you're sure it's not just going to lay around and you'll get a head start on doing your laundry. I do that because all the dirty clothes are usually my favorite ones. Ie: I'll want to wear them again ASAP!
4) Unpack on thing at the time
Emptying the remainder of your bag onto the floor/bed will make it seem as though you have so much to put away.
If you've got all your things organised in various bags, take one bag out at a time to put things away.
5) Shake out your bag
Before putting my bag away, I like to shake it out in the tub or outside. If I've been to the beach chances are there will be sand in my bag, shoes, and my clean clothes. So I shake those out too before putting them away.
Otherwise there will be sand in the closet for months & months!
There you have it, my 5 tips to unpacking in 10 minutes or less. Have you got any tips on unpacking?
